Victor W. A. Mbarika

 

 

1. Biographical Sketch

 

Dr. Victor W. Mbarika is on faculty in the College of Business at Southern University and A&M College and is founding director of the University’s International Center for Information Technology and Development (ICITD). He is an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) consultant with various governmental and private agencies. He holds a B.S. in Management Information Systems from the U.S. International University, an M.S. in MIS from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Ph.D. in MIS from Auburn University.  With over 100 academic publications, Dr. Mbarika’s has authored three books and his research on ICT diffusion in developing countries and on multimedia learning has appeared (or are forthcoming) in 35 peer reviewed journals, five book chapters and over 60 national and international conference publications. He was cited as being “in the forefront of academic research into ICT  implementation in Africa, and has provided a theoretically-informed framework for understanding ICTs in less developed countries…”His scholarly publications have appeared in journals such as IEEE Transactions, IEEE Spectrum, Communications of the ACM, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, the Information Society, Journal of the American Society for Information Sciences and Journal of Global Information Management. He has received several research and teaching grants and fellowships from the National Science Foundation, NASA, KPMG, Southern Regional Education Board, and the Louisiana Board of Regents. He is editor-in-chief of The African Journal of Information Systems, and he serves as a senior board member of several other journals such as IEEE Transactions on IT on Biomedicine. Dr. Mbarika is Founder of the Cameroon Computer and Network Center (CCNC). He is a member of the Association of Information Systems (AIS), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Information Resources Management Association (IRMA). 2004 – Present: Assoc. Professor of Management Information Systems

Southern University and A&M College. College of Business-- Department of Management, Marketing, and E-Business.

 

Main Responsibility: Lead the launching of a new major in E-Business (first E-Business major offered at any public institution of higher learning in Louisiana).

 

Provide leadership for the College’s AACSB re-accreditation efforts. Teach:  Electronic Commerce and Database Management; Coordinate multiple student projects to develop business plans, and analyze and develop

e-business systems for local businesses. Support and Consult with current and potential local businesses on e-business entrepreneurship and e-business marketing strategies.

         The International Center For Information Technology and Development    

          (ICITD)

The International Center for Information Technology and Development focuses on research and consulting in the area of information technology for sustainable development. Examples of organizations that have been its client include the United Nations, the International Telecommunications Union and the Government of Ethiopia. Research generated by this group has been ranked as the leading research in ICTs for some developing regions.
